Workshop invitation: The Open Archival Information System - an introduction

25.04.2018 10:20

On May 28th AUSSDA is organizing an introductory workshop covering the OAIS reference model. Especially persons working in digital archiving will benefit from learning about the concepts of this internationally known standard.

How does one organize an archive? The Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System (OAIS) is an important standard for organisations involved in the preservation and dissemination of digital information objects. As a generic model of preservation systems it describes workflows and functions performed by archives. It thereby provides important answers to the question of how we can ensure that digital records remain accessible and understandable across technological and cultural change.

Yet, while OAIS is immensely helpful in understanding how archives work, its language and concepts are not easily accessible, especially for those new to the field of (digital) preservation. This one-day workshop will provide an introduction to the OAIS reference model, and its terminology and concepts.

The workshop is aimed especially at archive staff.

Trainer: Jonas Recker is a member of the team Archive Operations at the Data Archive for the Social Sciences, GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences in Cologne, Germany.

Time: 28 May 2018, 10:00 - 17:00
