European Language Social Science Thesaurus (ELSST)

ELSST - The European Language Social Science Thesaurus is a broad-based, multilingual thesaurus for the social sciences. It is part of CESSDA ERIC's (Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives) metadata strategy and is owned and published by CESSDA and its national Service Providers.

Indexing concepts and topics used in studies is important to ensure that all data in the CESSDA consortium  are findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable (FAIR). AUSSDA uses ELSST to assign keywords to studies that are archived and made available. To index as precisely as possible, AUSSDA works closely with the data depositors.

Behind the scenes, AUSSDA participates in the annual revision of ELSST. The thesaurus is available in 14 languages with the source language being English (all translations are made from English to the local language). Under the supervision of GESIS, AUSSDA adds Austria-specific vocabulary to the German translation of the revisioned Thesaurus.
